Welcome To
Forrest Park! |
Our abiding aim is to reproduce in this Twentieth Century the church of our Lord as it
existed in the First Century in matters of faith and practice. That this may be a
reality, the church of today must be - in name and organization, in teaching and living,
in worship and service - just what the church was during the time of the apostles.
The division in the religious world today is far different from the unity enjoyed by the
early Christians before traditionalism and distinctive names divided them. Believing
such division to be contrary to the Scriptures, we have no denominational organization or
name or creed. We strive to make Christ our only creed and the Bible our only rule
of faith. Following the teachings of Christ and His apostles, individually we are
known as Christians, collectively as the churches of Christ.

Making Everyone Feel at Home
It's easy to feel lost in a large crowd. Some will even avoid a "large" congregation for fear they will miss out on personal involvement. Our experience in Life Group participation is that everyone has the opportunity to identify with smaller fellowship groups that strengthen their sense of belonging at Forrest Park. These groups provide an avenue to meet many of our congregational needs such as caring for our sick and the spiritually weak.
Our worship services are designed to glorify God and to draw worshipers closer to Him. You will find a friendly welcome, and you can concentrate in earnest study free from the tensions of over-persuasion. The worship is patterned after the simple New Testament way. The Bible is our total source of authority.
We have Bible classes for all ages, cradle roll through senior adults, on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights taught by faithful Christians who love God and His Word. Our Ladies' meet on Tuesday mornings from September through May for additional special studies.
Nursery:
Our nursery is staffed at each service with qualified attendants. Each week it is hygienically cleaned, thus offering the maximum of protection for our babies. Mothers are asked to acquaint themselves with nursery policies that are posted on the door.
Local and Stateside Evangelism:
Our evangelistic thrust is divided into three specific areas: Local and Stateside, Foreign, and Printed Word Evangelism which overlaps the other two. Locally we conduct a vigorous outreach to the community through the Bible Call Telephone Tape Library, a fully computerized touch tone access to hundreds of Bible studies by phone. We also write and print Outreach Magazine which is mailed into 34,000 homes in Lowndes Country three times each year. In addition, we conduct special lectureships, revivals, door knocking efforts, and weekly visitation through our Life Groups.
Foreign Mission Work:
Latin American Missions is the foreign evangelism outreach of Forrest Park. Annually, Christians from Forrest Park join brethren from all over the country to conduct preaching and medical campaigns in Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru and Columbia. Our office building houses the medical missions warehouse, and a complete staff of mission ministers who travel extensively for the foreign work. To date, there are five full-time men on our mission staff. Funds are raised by our staff for over one hundred preachers and students in Latin America. In addition, our elders oversee the School of the Americas and three satellite schools for preacher training and most recently we have added the work of a children's home in Panama City, Panama.
A major support of all our evangelistic work is a fully operational print shop with a full time missionary printer. In addition to the Outreach Magazine, the print shop makes possible a Spanish version called El Expositor Espiritual. Hundreds of thousands of teaching tracts go to Latin America annually through the printing ministry. Volunteers are vital to this great work.
Benevolence - Disaster Relief:
Forrest Park has a strong belief that serving the Lord involves serving our fellowman. Volunteers are on duty many hours each week working in our warehouse and pantry. Our trucks are often among the first to arrive in hurricane and flood ravaged areas. Local needs are met on a daily basis with grocery and clothing distribution. In addition, we have for years supported the Georgia Christian Children's Home (Raintree Village) and support The Children's Home of the Americas in the Republic of Panama with the help of sister congregations.
It is our purpose at Forrest Park to develop a well rounded youth program for all our school-age children. In addition to the work done by our Bible class teachers, we have a strong junior and senior high program guided by a dedicated committee of Christian men and a youth minister. For several years they have hosted a state-wide youth rally known as Y. E. S. Weekend (Youth Enrichment Seminar) that draws hundreds of young people from all over Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. A Junior-Senior Banquet as an alternative to the Prom, field trips, and frequent area-wide devotionals are other highlights.
Leadership Training:
We have a special training program for our youth known as Lads to Leaders and Leaderettes. Scores of boys and girls have been trained in various leadership skills and in the qualities of leadership that will prepare them for future roles in the church. Periodically we conduct classes for the men in the church to prepare them as Life Group leaders, deacons, and elders.
Food groups, shower groups, secret sisters, three Ladies' Bible classes, annual retreats, and annual Ladies' Day programs provide additional opportunities for our ladies in the church to grow spiritually.
Several of our families have dedicated themselves to spending considerable time with our "over-55" population in the church. Their activities are frequent, enjoyable, and they include a large segment of the church.
We have a large and active group of Moody personnel in the congregation. Our aim is to increase the opportunities of outreach to the base and to provide a support group among the church families for any we can reach.
Our local work is supported by an office staff made up of two elders on staff, a local evangelist, youth minister, family life minister, media minister and secretary. Working in the same office building is our complete mission staff of three missions men, two printed word ministers, a medical missions specialist, a translator and a secretary. Visitors are eagerly received in a very relaxed and open atmosphere of love. The office building is adjacent to our fellowship hall, two warehouses, and print shop. It houses a large reference library as well.
